Putin and Modi met as part of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a 45-minute bilateral meeting within the scope of the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi. At the meeting at the Bharat Mandapam Congress Center, Modi presented his Russian counterpart with the Russian translation of the 2,000-year-old ancient Indian philosophy work "Tirukkural".

In the meeting held at the Bharat Mandapam Congress and Exhibition Center and lasting 45 minutes, the two leaders discussed the cooperation between their countries.
At the beginning of the meeting, Modi presented Putin with the work of life philosophy "Tirukkural" written by the ancient Indian thinker Tiruvalluvar and translated into Russian. During the presentation, Modi said, "This book was written in India 2 thousand years ago. The great writer Tiruvalluvar talked about human life, compassion and state administration in his work. His thoughts remain valid today. We translated this book into Russian. I believe the book will help us strengthen the ties between the peoples of the two countries," he said.
Thanking the gift, Putin expressed his satisfaction with the emphasis on the development of bilateral relations by the Prime Minister of India.
The Russian leader said, "This is exactly how it will be with your evaluations." Modi also gave the Russian edition of the "Bhagavad Gita" epic to the Russian leader during Putin's visit to India in December 2025.
Putin invited Modi to Russia for the 24th Annual Russia-India Summit; Modi accepted this invitation.
It was announced that the exact dates of the visit will be determined later. After the completion of the meeting, the two leaders boarded the same limousine and called "INNOPROM. India" went to the exhibition. Putin will also address the annual general session of the BRICS Business Forum during the day.
The two leaders last met at the Ala-Arça state residence on the side of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, which was held in Bishkek on August 31. In that meeting, the leaders discussed the economic partnership between the two countries and the situation in Ukraine.
Russian Vice President Yuriy Ushakov noted that the Moscow administration values the trust-based relationship between the two leaders and that the parties prefer to openly evaluate current issues in informal environments.
Putin, who made a three-day working visit to India, will also make contacts with other leaders within the scope of the 18th summit program, which coincides with the 20th anniversary of the organization's founding.
According to the program quoted by Ushakov, the Russian leader will hold separate meetings with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Malaysian Prime Minister Enver Ibrahim, Ethiopian Prime Minister, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the President of the BRICS New Development Bank. A possible contact with Egyptian President Abdulfettah al-Sisi is also planned.
The 18th summit of BRICS, which takes its name from the English initials of the founding countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa and brings together developing economies, is held in New Delhi between September 11-13.
